Vintage Key Hanger

It seems like in every catalog you pick-up someone is creating some type of hanger. But. we did not find one hanger that combines "real" vintage/antique keys with new hardware and looks great.

So, we have created a unique hanger that incorporates vintage keys along with new hardware to compliment each other. The vintage keys are exceptionally detailed and make a great decorating statement. We have also found wonderful key hole plates that are new and have a Victorian flair.

You can hang jewelry, photos, etc...even hang your key chains on it.

Let us get started.

Materials Needed:

1) Pre-cut wood board available at most craft stores, size varies according to how many keys you want to hang.

2) Antique Keys(4 pcs.) ...we found ours at *Betty Gallgaher Antiques

3) Key hole plates ...these are available in many styles at *Van Dyke's Restorers

4) Stain ...we choose english walnut

5) Screws (1/8" 3/4" long)

6) Epoxy glue

7) Power drill

8) Craft knife

Let's Create:

1) Drill the holes for the placement of the keys and cut around the hole to fit the key (with the craft knife) on the front of the board.

2) On the back of the board use your craft knife and carve out a space for one of your antique keys to be used as a hanger.

3) Stain your board, and we suggest wait overnight to dry.

4) Place the key to be a hanger where is cut out in step (2), use epoxy glue to fill in and wait until completely dried.

5) Place your keyhole plates and position to fit around your 3 holes in the front of the board and glue.

6) Insert the screws to each holes from the back side.

7) Put a little glue in the holes and top of the screw, then place your keys in the holes, it may take a few adjustments.

8) We suggest let it dry overnight.

You are done!

You have just completed a charming one of a kind hanger that will compliment your kitchen, bedroom etc..almost any room where you need a hanger.
