Victorian Decorating Tips
Matting Botanical Prints
I am sure you have seen, in many catalogs, botanical prints being sold.
In most catalogs, we have come across, reproduction prints are at very high prices.
So, we have searched some of the local antique markets and found original antique Victorian botanical prints.
The cost for the print itself was very inexpensive around $15.00.
But, they were in very good condition. Mostly the late 1800's.
It is very simple to matt your print. We went to a local discount store and found "real" wood frames that were in antique gold finish. The frame itself already had a cardboard window mat included.
We went to our local fabric store and picked up some very popular toile print fabric.
We bought the heavier toile fabric used for curtains etc... Then, we spray glued the mat and cut the fabric to fit around the mat.
Just place your print in the frame and you are done!
You also, can easily, out of cardboard, cut a window mat that will fit in your frame within seconds.
The botanical prints we have featured were found within the last 6 months so the prices should still be very reasonable. Also, what a great and beautiful "thing" to collect.
The prints are inexpensive and readily available.
You may even find other uses for these wonderful little pieces of history!
However, we were not so concerned regarding using acid free products since the prints were so inexpensive to begin with.
But, if you want to, you could take your print to a gallery to be framed, of course it would be very expensive.
Imagine, you can have an original botanical print (a real antique) decorating your home, instead of an expensive reproduction print. Best of all, you framed it yourself !
HAPPY MATTING!
