We always receive questions regarding on the best way to make a cup of tea. So, we went to our local expert Lesley Dimor, proprietor of PerQup to give us a lesson on tea. Lesley is extremely knowledgeable on the many aspects of making a great cup of tea and has given local seminars on the subject.
Lesley gave us many great tips for all of us to explore.
When making a cup of tea, one of the major components is the quality of the tea. Make sure it is a quality tea (which many wonderful teas are available at PerQup). The water temperature is also a big factor. The water should not boil but be at a temperature of 195 F°*.
Another factor to consider is how long to steep the tea...this factor however varies according to the strength you want of the tea and type of tea. Just an example; green tea usually should steep for 3 - 5 minutes as of black tea should seep for 5 - 7 minutes.
Another idea for the summer is ice tea. You should double brew the tea; for a quart, use 6 bags of tea, using half hot water and steep 6 -8 minutes. Remove bags, and just put ice for the other half of water. Also, if you want to sweeten the tea, Lesley suggests using your favorite liquid type sweetener and if you use sugar, don't put it directly in the tea but, mix a little hot water with sugar and add to the tea. This way you will be able to mix sugar evenly in the tea.
Some of Lesley's favorite teas are: Sip for The Cure, and Green Chai which are available in her shop. Lesley just added for the hot summer months a unique item which is "tea by the pitcher" You can purchase a specially made pitcher which includes the tea and have a very refreshing ice tea.
Lesley also gave us a few wonderful ideas for flavoring such as; cinnamon sticks and ginger which will give your tea a unique taste experience.
Besides a variety of teas, Lesley also has available a wide variety of coffees, delectable treats and unique tea and coffee accessories for you to purchase.
